Humans in Training (Babies)

It’s funny to think that a baby is a tiny, unpolished human in training. They arrive knowing nothing about the world—completely blank, except for primal instincts to cry, feed, and sleep (sometimes). But what’s wild is realising that they’re not just any humans in training—they’re ours to teach, to guide, and hopefully to help become better versions of ourselves.

It’s humbling to think about. Babies are these raw bundles of potential, watching our every move, soaking up what we model, and shaping their understanding of what it means to be human. They learn how to handle emotions from how we respond to frustrations. They see how we treat others and begin to internalise empathy or the lack of it. They observe how we treat ourselves—our self-talk, our patience, our kindness toward ourselves—and take notes, even when we’re not at our best.

The Opportunity to Do Better

If that doesn’t light a fire under you, I don’t know what will. As parents, we have the profound (and daunting) opportunity to rewrite generational patterns and help our kids become better humans than we are. That means addressing our own stuff—the habits, attitudes, and beliefs that might not serve us or them in the long run.

Just some food for thought, a thought which humbled me today. Attending my cousins wedding with my little baby, and navigating a whole plethora of emotions from the proximity to family.
